Finding therapy for relationships, or personal experiences while being a part of the kink community can be a bit daunting. Often therapists are disapproving, or worse titillated. I have heard many times that individuals wish they could find a safe space to discuss their deep concerns with someone who won’t flinch at their lifestyle. As a therapist I move beyond normalizing into affirming and celebrating the self knowing strengths that kink offers people. I am also able to hold space for individuals with ambivalence or self shaming processes that are creating maladaptive discomfort. Whether you are playing with power difference, rope, or impact, I am able to hear it, look past the initial reaction, and bring your moments of self knowing into the broader context of process therapy.
